Snow clearing contracts

Seasonal driveway and walkway contracts for Kanata homes and small commercial sites, and how to read one before you sign.

Why Kanata yards are their own problem

Kanata is not one place as far as ground conditions go. Parts of Kanata Lakes and Morgan's Grant sit on shallow soil over limestone, so lawns dry out and brown weeks before the rest of the city. The lower ground toward the Carp River and the Hazeldean corridor is sensitive marine clay that swells wet, shrinks dry and compacts hard (NRC). The same maintenance plan cannot serve both, and a test hole at the quote stage settles which one you own.

Age is the other split. Beaverbrook was planned in the 1960s and its canopy now sets the price of every autumn clean-up. Katimavik, Glen Cairn and Bridlewood are on their first generation of tired lawns and overgrown cedar hedges. Stittsville and Fernbank have almost no canopy and almost no topsoil, so their problem is establishment rather than restoration. Three different jobs on three sides of the same suburb.

Then there is winter. The west end catches wind, frontages are open, and snow drifts back across a cleared driveway hours after the snowfall stops. Add browsing deer and rabbits off the Greenbelt edge and road salt along Eagleson, Hazeldean, March and Terry Fox, and the list of things that decide how a Kanata yard looks in May has very little to do with what was planted in it.

Indicative ranges

Kanata lawn, yard and snow price guide (2026)

  • $40 to $70Weekly lawn cutting, standard suburban lot, per visit
  • $1,000 to $1,800Weekly lawn cutting, full season of about 26 visits
  • $300 to $700Fertilizer programme, three or four applications

Indicative 2026 prices before HST for Kanata and the west end. No primary source publishes Ottawa landscaping prices, so every figure here is a planning range drawn from the drivers named on each service page, not a quote. Labour sets most of these numbers, and Ontario's general minimum wage rises to $17.95 on 1 October 2026, which will show in next season's pricing. Permit fees, arborist reports and engineer's drawings are extra where they are required. Kanata lawn, yard and snow price guide (2026).

How the work runs

  1. Dig a test hole before anything is quotedThree holes 300 mm deep tell you whether you are on thin soil over rock or on compacted clay. The right plan for one is the wrong plan for the other.
  2. Locate, then digA free Ontario One Call request at least five business days ahead. It is a legal requirement and it covers a fence post as much as a patio excavation.
  3. Water leaves before anything is plantedGrade restored to the approved plan, swale left alone, downspouts extended. The City does not allow you to change property grades or send water next door.
  4. Book the fall visit and sign snow in SeptemberAutumn clean-up prevents most of the spring damage, and west-end snow routes fill by early October.
